Influence of Varying Date Palm (Phoenix Dactylifera L.) Powder Levels In Hyperlipidemic Rat Model
Abstract
Hyperlipidemia is a new global burden. Sun dried date flesh is an innovative way to store them. It is necessary to analyze lipid lowering potential of date palm powder. To find out the therapeutic effect of Date palms (Phoenix dactylifera L.) powder with different concentrations on blood lipid profile among hyperlipidemic experimental rats. Total 30 rats of 200±20g were divided into 6 treatment groups. 1st was positive control (T0) group, 2nd was negative control (N0) and 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th (T1, T2, T3, T4) were treatment group. All rats were exposed with hyperlipidemia except group N0. Blood lipid levels (TC, TG, LDL and HDL) were analyzed at zero day and 28th day of the treatment. Group T1 to T4 were fed on 3ml, 5ml, 8ml and 10ml of date powder solution for 28 days. After the consumption of date powder, rat’s weight reduced from 259.40±10.06 to 247.20±9.65, TC level declined from 150.00±6.63 to 145.00±7.48, LDL reduced from 120.80±4.96 to 111.80±5.80, TG reduction seen from 159.20±7.25 to 150.00±7.84. While HDL was increased from 40.00±4.12 to 45.00±4.00 with all the result statistically significant (p≤0.05). The results of proximate analysis of date powder contains 1.94±0.82% ash content, 0.53±0.46% fat content, 5.23±0.43% fiber, 2.43±0.47% protein and 85.80±5.64 NFE. TPC 253.11±28.19, TFC 43.18±3.43 and 15.16±1.60 DPPH. Date palm powder reduced hyperlipidemia significantly. Raised HDL level (p-value 0.038), reduce TC, LDL and TG levels.
