HERBAL TREATMENT FOR DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract

The existence of chronic hyperglycemia is characterized by metabolic disorder is known as diabetes or diabetes mellitus. It may be a diabetes mellitus type1 (immune mediated), diabetes mellitus type2 (insulin resistance), gestational diabetes and others (genetic flaw, environment, infection and certain drugs). Diabetes mellitus is diagnoses by different approach in individuals like oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), fasting blood glucose test (FBG), and random blood glucose test (RBG) and hemoglobin A1c test (HbA1c). Diabetes mellitus increase the risk of severe complications in patients which suffer from diabetes mellitus such as autonomic neuropathy, retinopathy, and diabetic foot, impairment of immune system, nephropathy, periodontal disease and cardiovascular diseases. There are many medication like sulfonylureas, meglitindes/ glinides, biguanides, dipeptidyl peptidase- 4 inhibitors but in this thesis we will study and focus on herbal medications used to treat diabetes mellitus
