Abstract

In the textile industries, dyes are used to color the cotton fabric in order to enhance the beauty and to fulfill the basic need of mankind. In the present research work microwave absorber was used in a microwave system for stripping of reactive dyed cotton fabric at low temperature for the development of a cost-effective method. Various oxidative and reductive methods were used with some modifications for the stripping of dyed cotton fabric by keeping in mind the quality of the fabric and also compared with conventional methods. The traditional stripping method harms the fabric's quality, redyeing capacity, and tensile strength by involving the use of a lot of dangerous chemical interactions and high bathing ratios. According to the current study, stripping using a microwave at a low temperature and various microwave absorbers would assist keep the quality and re-dyeability of the fabric while totally removing the colors from it. The main purpose of this study is to avoid the fabric from direct heat exposure and also to preserve the tear and tensile strength of the fabric. Ice was used during the procedure in order to maintain the low temperature of the reductive solution of NaOH and Na2S2O4. The experiment was performed with different concentrations of reductive solution (10 g/L, 15 g/L, and 20 g/L) and different material-to-liquid ratios (1:40, 1:60, and 1:80) for different time intervals (20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 seconds). The maximum stripping percentage calculated was 31.85% for 20 g/L in 1:40 for 100 seconds. Although the stripping efficiency was not so high, the tear and tensile strength of the fabric was good and high. The efficiency of stripping parameters like color strength and color coordinates was analyzed by some spectroscopic techniques like spectra flash spectrophotometer. The quality assurance properties of stripped cotton fabric were evaluated by tear and tensile strength, redye ability, and absorbency of cotton fabric. The obtained results were statistically analyzed by mean and standard deviation.
