Abstract

Dengue fever, which is carried by Aedes mosquitos, poses considerable public health risks globally, particularly in endemic areas such as Pakistan. The purpose of this study is to analyze the hematological and biochemical alterations in dengue-infected individuals, with an emphasis on complete blood count (CBC), serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), and creatinine phosphokinase (CPK) levels. The current study is done to assess the correlation between blood parameters and the severity of dengue infection and to analyze gender differences in disease outcomes. An observational cross-sectional study was done at tertiary care institutions in Peshawar, including 68 confirmed dengue cases. Blood samples were tested for CBC, SGPT, and CPK levels. Data were acquired from patient records and processed with IBM SPSS 27, which used descriptive and inferential statistics. The research group was 57% female, with an average age of 31.47 years. Notable results included thrombocytopenia (mean platelet count: 170,452.75 cells/µL), leukopenia (mean WBC count: 6394.54 cells/µL), and high SGPT levels (mean: 69.12 IU/L), whereas most patients had normal CPK levels (mean: 94.5 IU/L). Chi-square analysis found a significant relationship between gender and illness severity, with females being more likely to present with moderate to severe dengue. The study identifies substantial hematological and biochemical changes in dengue patients, stressing their usefulness as prognostic indicators. Early diagnosis and care of dengue infections can lead to better patient outcomes.
