Abstract

Background:Conduct of general anesthesia needs continuous monitoring of vital physiological  parameters including body temperature.. Perioperative Hypothermia delays the patient arousal from General Anesthesia. It decreases anesthetic drug metabolism results into prolongation of post anesthesia care unit (PACU) recovery time.

Objective: To find association between perioperative hypothermia and recovery from Genera anesthesia. similarly, to ensure patient safety and enhance the quality of healthcare system. moreover, to reduce the length of hospital stay and out of pocket spending in health care

Material and Methods: A Systemic review was carried out on the available and accessible electronic literature on the topic mentioned above. initially a totally of 104 articles were taken. In second phase through more relevant only seven articles qualified for the.

Results: From the review we found that Hypothermia causes a decline in hepatic metabolism by decreasing enzymatic activity including depression of conjugation and detoxification within the liver that may extends the actions of the anesthetics used. In humans, a drop in core temperature of about 2.1◦C intraoperatively had slowed down anesthetic recovery by 40 minutes Thus Hypothermia lengthens awakening from General anesthesia due to change in distribution and elimination of anesthetic drugs.

Conclusions: Maintaining normal core body temperature decreases  the time of recovery from anesthesia and hence it , increase the quality of health care system.
