Abstract

Objective: To compare the diagnostic performance of two-point compression ultrasonography with whole-leg duplex ultrasonography for suspected lower-extremity deep-vein thrombosis.1,2,3

Study Design: Analytical Cross-sectional Study

Place and Duration of Study: Department of Radiology, Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi, from 10st September 2023 to 10st April 2024.

Methodology: A sample of 100 adults with suspected lower-extremity DVT underwent two-point compression ultrasound followed by whole-leg duplex ultrasonography as the reference examination.

Results: The two-point protocol identified 27 of 28 reference-positive examinations and 63 of 72 reference-negative examinations, producing an illustrative sensitivity of 96.4%, specificity of 87.5%, and accuracy of 90.0%.

Conclusion: Two-point compression ultrasound may be a rapid screening approach for proximal DVT, but a negative limited examination does not assess the entire lower-limb venous system and should not be treated as equivalent to whole-leg imaging.
