Therapeutic Potential of Dandelion and Parsley Leaf-Based Tea in Managing Iron Deficiency Anemia

Abstract

Background: Dandelion helps in the regulation of iron burden. In many cultures, dandelion has been valued for its therapeutic qualities. It has been described to treat anemia. Dandelion root and leaves are a fantastic herbal source of iron. Objective: To determine the effects of dandelion and parsley leaves based tea on iron deficiency anemia. Methods: The study was randomized clinical trial. Total forty subjects were randomly allocated into four groups. Group To receive no treatment. Group T1 received parsley leaves based tea treatment. Group T2 received dandelion leaves based tea treatment. Group T3 received both dandelion and parsley leaves based tea treatment. Hb, ferritin and hematocrit test were used for assessment. Test values were taken at baseline, 4th week and 8th week. The gathered data were examined using SPSS 21.0, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied after testing normality of data. Results: According to the study's findings, treatment group’s level of iron, hemoglobin and hematocrit had improved statistically significantly. However, Group T2 and T3 (p <0.05) demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in iron deficiency anemia. Results from group analyses in between were statistically shown. Conclusion: The study concluded that there are a lot of advantageous effects that not help to boost the immunity but helpful to reduce the symptoms of anemia. These changes are noteworthy among the participants subjected to dandelion, parsley group and dandelion group as compared to participants who were subjected exclusively with parsley group.
