Frequency of ABO and Rhesus (Rh D) blood group in Pakistan

The ABO blood group system was the first identified human blood group system discovered by Karl Land Steiner in 1901. Later, Land Steiner and Wiener discover Rhesus (Rh) blood types in 1940.The ABO and Rh blood group system is a clinically significant blood group system and extensively recognized in medical and anthropological studies, among 29 human blood group systems. This review article aims to determine the frequency distribution and prevalence of ABO and Rhesus (Rh) blood group system in all-regions and provinces of Pakistan, using literature search from 2001 to 2021.According to this review, the frequency distribution of ABO and Rh blood group in Pakistani population, blood group B is prevalent with frequency of (32.6%), followed by O (32.3%), then A (24.7%), and AB (10.29%). While for Rh (D) positive and negative, it was 91.53% and 8.74%, respectively
