Abstract

Glucose biosensors have proven to be invaluable in managing diabetes by monitoring blood glucose levels. Significant improvements in glucose biosensor technology during the previous 50 years have led to the invention of a variety of devices, including point-of-care devices, continuous glucose monitoring systems, and noninvasive glucose monitoring systems. Despite these advancements, obtaining accurate and trustworthy measurements of blood glucose still presents difficulties. The necessity for additional technological improvements in glucose biosensors, standardization of measurement objectives for their effectiveness, and ongoing user guidance and instruction are some of these difficulties. The history, underlying ideas, analytical capabilities, and present status of glucose biosensors in clinical applications are all briefly discussed in this review article.
