PREVALENCE OF DE QUERVAIN’S TENOSYNOVITIS AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH DURATION OF SMARTPHONE USE AMONG DPT STUDENTS AT DISTRICT SWAT

Introduction: Mostly the person who suffer from depression in the transition age from adolescence to adult hood this is because of changing life requirement from childhood to puberty. Women are more susceptible to this depression conditions due to many reasons including hormonal changes to which they are exposed first time in their life. Methods and materials: This is the case control study which has been carried out on the patients who are suffering from depression due to their obesity and lack of work. In this study, we use the classification of disease which is based according to (WHO 1996 ICD-10, F-32-F-33). This study has been carried out in Lahore after getting due permission, ethical approval, and IRB permissions from the University of Lahore, Lahore, Pakistan. Results: sociodemographic, anthropometric, health, and lifestyle variables associated with depression among individuals attending Primary Health Care Centres in Lahore (n = 389). The sample included 217 patients with depression and 172 controls. Patients with depression had a higher mean BMI (29 ± 5 kg/m²) compared to controls (24 ± 3 kg/m²) and were more likely to be on medication (69% vs. 23%). Additionally, the depression group had higher prevalence of smoking (18% vs. 6%), illicit drug use (14% vs. 3%), and a positive family history of depression (28% vs. 12%). No differences were observed in physical activity, alcohol consumption, or sex distribution between the groups. Discussion: Our study, using the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), found that 55.8% of patients exhibited severe depressive symptoms, highlighting the need for a multidisciplinary, multi-professional educational team to provide counseling and support within hospital or primary care settings. Women were more prone to depression, likely due to biological and socio-cultural factors. Female patients diagnosed during the study often experienced psychiatric symptoms, including depressive episodes, and required physical, mental, and emotional support from healthcare professionals. Conclusion: It can be concluded from this study that depression has a high prevalence among individuals who are obese, overweight, or have heavy smoking habits. Family history of depression is a critical factor that should be observed from early childhood, as symptoms often begin during this period and may lead to more severe manifestations in adolescence or adulthood. Demographic and behavioral characteristics are also important to monitor, as they are correlated with the development of obesity and substance use.
