Abstract

Background: Family planning is a way of thinking and living that is adopted voluntarily upon the bases of knowledge, attitude, and responsible decisions by couples and individuals. Family planning deals with reproductive health of the mother, having adequate birth spacing, avoiding undesired pregnancies and abortions, preventing sexually transmitted diseases, and improving the quality of life of mother, fetus, and family as a whole. Being one of the populous countries of the world Pakistan is currently declining in case of providing land, water and food resources to its citizen’s Family planning is not based on just one technique; for those who are willing, there are several options. It is advised that we make use of various media outlets in order to enhance the ideas of family planning and purposeful prevention of conception in Pakistan

Objective: To assess the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice regarding Family Planning in women of reproductive age at Tertiary Care Hospitals in Lahore, Punjab

 Method: This cross-section study was conducted among women of reproductive age at tertiary care hospital, Lahore. Convenience sampling technique was used to select sample for this study and questionnaire was used for data collection

 Result: About 384 women of reproductive age participated in this study, majority of the participants 320 (83%) had good knowledge regarding family planning whereas 56 (17%) of them had no knowledge regarding family planning. Majority of the participants had positive attitudes 272 (70.85%) regarding family planning.112 (29.2%) of the respondents showed poor level of attitude regarding family planning. With regards to practice, the participants showed bit different practice and good practice (37.65%) whereas those (63.4%) with never practice regarding family planning.

Conclusion: The study provides insights into the family planning methods, attitudes, knowledge, and practices of 384 participants, along with their demographic characteristics. The majority of respondents recognized the benefits of family planning and considered its methods appropriate, indicating a high level of awareness and a generally positive attitude toward family planning. The findings also revealed widespread adoption of family planning methods, suggesting an increasing acceptance of contraceptive use and preventive measures to reduce unintended pregnancies.

Recommendation: The Government of Pakistan should develop and implement comprehensive awareness programs to educate the public about the different methods of family planning, their benefits, and their safe and effective use.
