Abstract

Non-surgical facial masculinization has gained popularity as a less invasive alternative to traditional surgical procedures. Among the various non-surgical options, hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers have emerged as a promising method for enhancing masculine facial features, such as a more defined jawline, chin projection, and overall facial contour. This prospective clinical study aimed to assess the efficacy, safety, and morphometric changes associated with non-surgical facial masculinization in Asian men using HA fillers. A total of 60 Asian male participants, aged between 20 and 45 years, were included in the study. Each participant received HA filler injections targeting the jawline, chin, and temporal regions to enhance facial masculinity. The primary outcomes measured were morphometric changes in facial features, including mandibular width, chin projection, and facial angles, assessed using advanced 3D facial imaging at baseline and 3 months post-treatment.

The results demonstrated significant improvements in all facial parameters. The mandibular width increased from 95.2 mm to 101.6 mm (p < 0.001), chin projection enhanced from 9.8 mm to 12.9 mm (p < 0.001), and both lower facial angle and jawline angle decreased, signifying more angular and defined facial contours (p < 0.001). Clinician ratings on the Clinician Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (C-GAIS) revealed that 85% of participants had "Much Improved" results, while 15% were rated as "Improved," with no participants reporting "No Change" or "Worsened" results. Patient satisfaction was high, with a mean score of 8.6 on the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), indicating strong approval of the treatment outcomes.

Adverse events were minimal and transient, with mild swelling (53%) and bruising (30%) being the most common side effects. These side effects resolved within a few days without requiring additional medical intervention. There were no reports of severe complications or infections, indicating a favorable safety profile for HA fillers in this context.

In conclusion, this study provides strong evidence that HA fillers are an effective, safe, and minimally invasive solution for facial masculinization in Asian men. The significant improvements in facial features, high patient satisfaction, and low complication rates support the clinical efficacy of this treatment. This study highlights the potential of HA fillers as an alternative to surgical facial masculinization procedures, offering a non-invasive approach with rapid results and minimal downtime. Further studies with larger sample sizes and extended follow-up periods are needed to validate these findings and assess long-term results.
